Ev.  6” x 2¾” x 1¾”.     25– 28 buds.  One of the last frontiers in the world of daylilies is the  multi-colored eyed daylily. MYSTERIOUS EYES has so many rings and layers of colors it is difficult to identify and categorize them.  The base color of the flower is cream with pink highlights.  The eye begins on the outer edge as a feathered fuchsia mauve that shades into a wide pale lilac before ending in a charcoal band which then demarcates the citron green throat.  In a sense there are three eyes in MYSTERIOUS EYES  - charcoal, lilac and fuchsia mauve.  MYSTEROIUS EYES has other interesting characteristics.  It begins blooming in early to mid April, a full 3 to 4 weeks before peak bloom in the garden.  Moreover, it double scapes i.e. each fan produces not one but two scapes.  MYSTERIOUS EYES is also one of my most important pod parents for increasing the size of my patterned daylilies.  A delightfully complex and beautiful daylily.  Fertile both ways.
